Product Safety Assessments Launched on www.dowproductsafety.com

Midland, MI - May 03, 2006, Dow announced today the publication of 12 new Product Safety Assessments (PSAs) on www.dowproductsafety.com.

“This is an historic day for Dow. Not only are we launching our 2015 Sustainability Goals, we are making an important step towards achieving one of our commitments in the new goals,” said Andrew Liveris. “With the availability of these first 12 product profiles, we are well on our way to meeting our goal of 30 by the end of this year.”

Now available to the public are brief, non-technical summaries for acetone, butanol, calcium chloride, caustic soda, EDTA (salts of Ethylenediamenetetraacetic acid), epichlorohydrin, Herculex®, isopropanol, propylene, propylene glycol, vinyl acetate and WideStrike™. The summaries contain basic hazard, use, risk and risk management information.

“It has been standard practice at Dow for more than three decades to build product risk evaluations into our product stewardship program,” said Greg Bond, director, Product Stewardship. “This received more emphasis when the American Chemistry Council (ACC) approved the Global Chemicals Management Policy and the product metrics of Responsible Care®.” Dow plans to publish a PSA for each product family we sell. “We will update the PSAs as new information becomes available,” Bond said.

“The increased availability of hazard and exposure information from programs such as the High Production Volume (HPV) Chemical Challenge and, in the future, from REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of CHemicals) in Europe, demonstrates an increased interest by the public to have this information,” said David W. Graham, vice president, Environment, Health & Safety. “Our approach helps meet that public need, while at the same time demonstrating our commitment to product stewardship and risk management.”
