DirectRooms reveals people can take part in a special event in May whereby eating a doughnut customers can help to turn something that is considered unhealthy into something that is positively healthy for others.

National Doughnut Week hopes to see thousands of people doing the charitable act of having to eat a delicious doughnut in aid of supporting The Children’s Trust. Bakers taking part in the programme are promising to donate a portion of the sales of each doughnut to the charity. People can feel guilt free and take comfort in the fact that what is usually a naughty treat for most people can actually have positive results.

The Children’s Trust helps hundreds of disadvantaged children every year with education, therapy and care for those with disabilities and complicated health issues. The charity is aiming to raise £50,000 this year when the event runs between 7th and 14th May 2011 and has managed to raise more than £700,000 in the previous 19 years the event has run.

Guests using Gatwick hotels (http://directrooms.com/england/hotels/gatwick-airport-hotels/price1.htm) should find out from nearby bakers what is likely to be on offer for the week as many places run unique doughnut themed activities from tasting to the art of icing.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms commented: “Doughnut week sees many fancy creations and footfall through bakeries is set to rise as people come to try the delicious varieties. Nearby hotels may also experience more bookings as people generally stay longer to take part.”
