Metso supplies PM rebuild and paper finishing technology to Norske Skog

May 03, 2006, Metso Paper will supply Norske Skogindustrier ASA with a rebuild of their Saugbrugs PM 6 paper machine in Halden, Norway, and paper finishing technology to the Saugbrugs and Skogn mills. In total, the orders are valued at close to EUR 15 million.

The PM 6 SC paper machine’s headbox will be rebuilt and the forming section will be upgraded. The machine produces annually some 300,000 tons of rotogravure grades. The rebuilt machine will come on stream in March 2007.

The Saugbrugs PM 6 papermaking line’s winder no. 6-1, the wrapping machine and conveyors will be upgraded to handle super jumbo rolls up to 4,350 mm in width and 8 tons in weight. The Super Heavy Duty winding station and compliant winding drums improve roll hardness and quality of jumbo rolls. Winder no. 6-2 will be rebuilt with compliant winding drums to maintain the same roll quality on both winders. Start-up is scheduled for March 2007.

To the Skogn mill Metso Paper will supply a new fully automatic wrapping machine with a capacity of 170 rolls per hour, and a conveyor system. The wrapping machine will wrap all rolls from the mill’s three paper machines, which produce a total of approx. 600,000 tons of newsprint per year. The new roll wrapping and handling systems will be taken into use in late 2006.
