ISLANDIA, N.Y. - CA Technologies (NASDAQ: CA) today announced that Bird Hosting, a cloud service provider and longtime 3Tera customer, has signed a multi-year license agreement with CA Technologies, extending the company’s previous month-to-month arrangement and tripling the number of servers running the software.

Bird Hosting has managed its entire catalog of services, including shared hosting, virtual servers, clustered servers and virtual private data centers (VPDCs) on the CA 3Tera® AppLogic® platform since early 2009, resulting in increased flexibility and cost savings.

After switching to CA 3Tera AppLogic software in 2009, Bird Hosting transitioned from dedicated servers to a CA 3Tera AppLogic-based grid built on commodity servers and reduced its data center footprint by 64 percent, consolidating 200 servers to 10 in just one data center alone. By serving multiple customers from a single grid environment and allocating processing power and memory based on the needs of individual customers, the company was able to expand its services beyond basic “one customer per server” web hosting. Additionally, Bird Hosting automated the entire customer start-up process, including ordering, provisioning and billing, and creating self-service offerings.
