EMSL Analytical offers testing solutions for all types of properties following fires that create smoke and soot damage.

Denver, CO

Yesterday, MSNBC reported that 335 homes from three areas near Fort Collins, Colorado, were order to be evacuated due to a raging wildfire. 50 mph winds were causing difficulties for firefighters and helped to expand the fire from just 25 acres on Saturday to approximately 1,000 acres on Sunday.

As of the report yesterday no people had been hurt, but at least one structure and some vehicles had been destroyed. Hopefully the fire can be stopped before more damage is done to people’s homes and belongings. Even for properties that go untouched by flames, these wildfires can produce an enormous amount of smoke that can enter structures. This smoke is filled with combustion by-products that include soot, ash and char.

Smoke infiltration into buildings can have damaging effects to both property and human health and often requires proof of damages for insurance claims. Odors, discoloration and “ghosting” effects can result when carbon black and combustion byproducts (carbonized material) are deposited on building surfaces and belongings. Testing can help provide information that can be used to help determine the amount of damage and the scope of the smoke remediation services that will be required.

EMSL Analytical, a leading provider of smoke damage testing service, has a laboratory in the Denver area on alert to help area residents. “Our Denver laboratory is ready to help people affected by these wildfires return to life as normal as quickly as possible,” reported Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President, Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “EMSL has the expertise and advanced instrumentation required to perform complex smoke damage and soot testing services. This makes it possible to identify smoke damage and potential health risks to building occupants.”
