Greenstone sponsors the Build It Green conference in Beirut

Earlier this week, Greenstone, the real estate developer affiliated to Johnny R. Saadé Holdings, confirmed its support to green living by sponsoring Build it Green’s conference on March 28th and 29th, 2011. Organized by eEcosolutions Lebanon, the event that took place between at the Monroe Hotel in Beirut under the patronage of H.E. Minister of Energy and Water Gebran Basil gathered more than 300 professionals in the field, including architects and engineers from both Lebanon and the rest of the region.

While stressing the necessity of increasing awareness and eco-friendly living in Lebanon, lecturers developed a comprehensive program, touching on several issues, namely the acoustics of energy efficient buildings as well as the importance of building envelope and using LED lighting.

A special workshop during the second day of the conference addressed La Brocéliande, one of Greenstone’s latest projects in Yarzé. The case-study developed the BREEAM accreditation system(the British equivalent to the US standard LEED) by which Greenstone aspires to get a Very Good rating based on criteria from nine sustainable construction categories: Water Ecology & Land use, Energy, Health & Well-being, Management, Materials, Waste, Transport, and Pollution.

Set for completion in mid-2012, Greenstone‘s latest project was meticulously created by a team of architects, designers, and environmental experts to ensure the project meets BREEAM high standards. La Broceliande is to be Lebanon’s first residential BREEAM “green-certified” building.

Greenstone’s concept was featured in detail during the conference.

“We believe Lebanon to be a well prepared market for green building projects. We were among the first few to launch green residential buildings and the first Lebanese real estate developer to opt for BREEAM accreditation” said Sami Andraos, Greenstone’s Development and Operations manager.

The Build it Green conference served as a confirmation of Lebanese real estate stakeholders’ increasing attention towards the environment through the construction of higher performance buildings, configured to meet the new global standards. Green is definitely the new black.
