Congratulations to the HowTheMarketWorks.com Winners of the Official February Contest

Congratulations to the top three traders in last month’s official February Contest at HowTheMarketWorks.com. The contest ran from February First through the 28th. The shorter month didn’t stop these traders from increase their gains by at LEAST 100%. Each trader started with $25,000 virtual trading cash. The trader that earns the most by the end of the month wins. Let’s take a look at the top three traders from February.

Trader Mr. Burns was able to increase his profits by an exciting 119.7% over the month. Just ahead of him was Trader David in second place. He increased his gains by an impressive 180.5%. But once again the big winner was Trader Spongey! He won January’s contest and did not relinquish his hold in February, increasing his profits by a remarkable 201.1%.

So, which stocks did these traders focus on in a month where political turmoil in the Middle East took a toll on the stock market? Trader Mr. Burns didn’t start trading until halfway through the month. That just goes to show traders; no matter how late in the month they begin, it is still possible to win. He traded LDK Solar Co, Ltd (LDK), Direxion Financial Bull (FAS), Hecla Mining Co (HL) and Sunrise Senior Living, Inc (SRZ).

Meanwhile, Trader David went from 41st place in January’s contest to second place by trading Ford Motor Company (F), Cheniere Energy (LNG), XOMA Ltd (XOMA) and Southwest Airlines Co (LUV).

As for Trader Spongey, how was he able secure the top spot for the second month in a row? He traded two of the same companies as he did last month: Rediff.com India (REDF), Shen Zhou Mining & Resources (SHZ). He added new companies as well, such as KV Pharmaceutical (KVA) and Avalon Rare Metals Inc (AVL).
