Hamilton School District Utilizes Ultraviolet (UV) Light to Provide a Healthy Learning Environment

Wisconsin school district utilizes ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) products manufactured by UltraViolet Devices, Inc. (UVDI).

The Hamilton School District in Wisconsin has taken a proactive approach to improving indoor air quality (IAQ), increasing energy efficiency, reducing respiratory and skin infections, and lowering maintenance costs throughout the district.

Jeff Grove, the Manager of Buildings and Grounds for the Hamilton School District reported, “Hamilton School District has been a strong proponent of utilizing ultraviolet technologies as part of the district’s measures to ensure a safe environment for both students and faculty. To date, the school district has invested in a broad range of UV technologies manufactured by UVDI.” They include:

• Utilizing UVDI’s V-MOD® coil disinfection system in the district’s HVAC air handlers. V-MOD prevents bacteria and mold growth on the evaporator coils resulting in lower energy consumption, improved indoor air quality and lower maintenance costs.
• Air stream disinfection is accomplished with UVDI’s V-MAX™ systems that have been installed in locker room air supply ducts. V-MAX is specifically designed to destroy bacteria and viruses in air streams resulting in healthier air for building occupants.
• Each school within the district utilizes UVDI’s Mobile Room Sanitizer for classroom disinfection. These portable units emit a powerful UV wave that disinfects viruses and bacteria on all surfaces in the room in a matter of minutes. These same devices are also employed to disinfect floor mats in the gymnasium used for wrestling, yoga and other physical education activities.
