Celebrate With the Irish in Morristown at the Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade

WEBWIRE

Believe it or not… St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner, and the Morris County St. Patrick’s Day Parade committees are hard at work coordinating efforts to make sure this year’s parade is the best ever!

The annual Morris County St. Patrick’s Day Parade held in Morristown each year is the largest family-oriented St. Patrick’s Day Parade in all of New Jersey. There will be 20 bands with about 50,000 in attendance either in the parade or as spectators.

Parade day, March 12, begins with Mass at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption, off Maple Avenue in Morristown. The parade will start at 12:00 noon at the corner of South Street and James Street. The parade route is South Street to Atno Avenue.

This year’s Grand Marshal is William “Willie” Quinn, a resident of Morris County, member of the Board of Trustees for the Morris County St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

For those that would like to begin celebrating early, the Morris County St. Patrick’s Day committee invites you to attend the Annual Grand Marshal Reception on Friday, March 4, 2011 from 7:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. at the Madison Hotel. The event includes Irish & American music – including live music by The Willie Lynch Band, bagpipers, dancing, beer, wine and hors d’oeuvres. Donations are $75 at the door.

The parade organizers, including the numerous committees, are all volunteers and consist of members Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of Morris County (FSSP), The Irish American Association of Northwest Jersey (IAANJ) and other volunteers. The trustees are responsible for assuring that the Parade has the necessary support to be a success.

This year, Morris County Alliance For Tourism (MCAT) and the Morris County Tourism Bureau (MCTB) are offering support for the event. MCAT will be marching in the parade along with Morristown National Historical Park. The organizations are also assisting the parade committee in planning a new feature of this year’s parade – a pre-parade show on the Green that begins at 11 a.m. and runs until noon.
