Djembe Drum Shop Introduces New Instrument Range to Promote Children’s Music

The online retailer Djembe Drum Shop has announced the launch of their new range of Children’s musical instruments, which are now available to purchase through their website. The new range of percussion instruments includes various types of African shakers, maracas and smaller sizes of djembe drums, instruments which are easy to learn and suitable for group music sessions.

The Djembe Drum Shop’s move to supplying musical instruments for children has come about to encourage more children to take part in music. Research suggests that music lessons help children to develop their language skills and playing a musical instrument boosts the brain’s sensitivity to speech sounds.

Professor Nina Kraus, a neuroscientist at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, has carried out research into the benefits of music to brain development. She has called for music lessons to become an integral part of the school syllabus based on her findings, which have proved that music aids children with their reading and language skills.

Unfortunately music lessons are in decline in UK schools. Following the economic downturn, UK council budgets have been reduced by a third. Music lessons have been one of the first things to go after these cuts were passed onto schools.
