Japanese Airline to Use Susterra® Renewably Sourced Propanediol De-Icing Fluid

One of Japan’s leading airlines has just reinforced its commitment to the environment by placing a significant order for the world’s first de-icing fluid based on glycol from a sustainable source.

All Nippon Airways (ANA) has confirmed the order for DFsustain with Kanto Chemical Ind., an official licensee for the Kilfrost range of innovative de-icing and anti-icing fluids. ANA participated in a trial of DFsustain made with Susterra® renewably sourced propanediol (Bio-PDO™) during the winter season last year.

“We’re delighted that ANA has taken on DFsustain as it has the potential to further reduce the airline’s carbon footprint,” explained Kilfrost’s Chief Executive Gary Lydiate. “It’s a world-first fluid and truly leads the way in terms of both green credentials and efficacy.”

Developed using Susterra® propanediol, created by DuPont Tate and Lyle BioProducts, DFsustain has the potential to use up to 40% less energy in manufacturing than more traditional fluids. In performance tests, the fluid was effective at temperatures as low as –40ºC.
