Metech Recycling partnership with Sony Take Back

WEBWIRE

Worcester, MA – January 28, 2011 Metech Recycling announces a new partnership with Sony Electronics and its national Take Back Recycling Program. Sony will cover the cost of recycling up to five Sony-branded consumer electronics per customer, per day, at the Metech Recycling facilities to achieve the program’s objective to make it as easy to recycle Sony products as it is to purchase them.

Metech Recycling offers seven new drop-off sites to the program in California, Utah, Colorado, Nebraska, North Carolina, and Massachusetts where consumers can dispose of electronics in an environmentally-safe way.

“Sony’s goal is to collect one pound of electronics for every pound it produces,” said Robert Benavent, Engineer, Corporate Environment, Safety and Health at Sony Electronics, “Adding seven more collection sites will give consumers more opportunities to recycle and bring us closer to that target.”

Metech Recycling is ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 certified and meets the highest standards for electronics recycling. This means that the products are taken apart by hand. Materials are sorted by plastic, metal, circuit boards, wire, etc. The materials are then processed and reintroduced to the manufacturing process as raw materials. Metech Recycling guarantees we will not landfill or export hazardous electronics waste material. All hard drives on systems that are recycled are shredded, ensuring data security.

Sony Electronics (www.sony.com/green) recognizes the close relationship between its business and the environment. Not only is Sony actively producing products with the environment in mind but it continuously strives to be a leading environmental corporate citizen.
