New SSH Tectia Server for IBM z/OS 5.2 Accelerates and Simplifies Secure File Transfers with IBM Mainframes

Helsinki, Finland and Wellesley, Mass. - April 24, 2006 , SSH Communications Security Corp. (HEX:SSH1V), a world-leading provider of enterprise security solutions and end-to-end communications security, and the original developer of the Secure Shell protocol, today announced the industry’s first IBM mainframe Secure Shell solution that allows enterprises to directly transfer files using the native MVS (Multiple Virtual Storage) data sets. With its native MVS integration and checkpoint-restart mechanism, the new SSH Tectia Server for IBM z/OS 5.2 speeds up file transfer operations, facilitates enhanced reliability, and provides ease of use for interactive file exchange.

The SSH Tectia solution is based on the SSH Secure Shell and SSH’s other industry-leading technologies used by millions worldwide. SSH Tectia enables secure system administration, secure file transfer, and secure application connectivity with centralized management throughout heterogeneous network environments consisting of Windows, Unix, Linux, and mainframes. For IBM mainframes, SSH Tectia provides transparent, secure connectivity for any TN3270 terminal product, and secures file transfers using the Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP).

The new SSH Tectia Server for IBM z/OS 5.2 incorporates direct streaming for all MVS operations, which improves file transfer performance by eliminating any additional memory and disk operations required previously for transferring files in MVS. The new streaming feature is accompanied by checkpoint-restart functionality for improved file transfer reliability. The new MVS data set listing with read and write capability allows interactive listing of datasets as files and folders with command-line SFTP tools and Windows client GUI, providing the industry’s first SFTP-based easy drag-and-drop file transfers between Windows workstations and mainframes without any changes to the legacy applications.

“Acting as hubs for many business-critical data transfers in large enterprises, IBM mainframes and their security practices play a critical role in meeting the data security requirements of regulations such as SOX 404 and the credit card industry’s PCI,” said Arto Vainio, CEO of SSH Communications Security. “The new features for more integrated and reliable mainframe file transfers together with the existing enterprise-class product functionality and support services, strengthen SSH Tectia as the leading security solution for protecting mainframe file transfers and TN3270 connections in heterogeneous enterprise networks.”
