TestAmerica Expert Provides Current Updates on ISM Draft Guidance at 2011 Ohio Brownfields Conference

WEBWIRE

Dr. Mark Bruce, TestAmerica’s Technical Director of the North Canton, Ohio laboratory and recognized industry expert, will address the current status of the Incremental Sampling Methodology (ISM) guidance at the 2011 Ohio Brownfields Conference. The presentation will be given on January 19, 2011 in Dublin, Ohio.

The ISM guidance document, developed by the Interstate Technology and Regulatory Council (ITRC) team, of which Dr. Bruce is an instrumental member, was designed to improve the overall quality of site characterization. The ISM guidance provides a reliable estimate of the mean concentration for each contaminant of concern within each decision or sampling unit. The guidance is scheduled to be publicly released in late 2011 with Internet-based training to follow in 2012. The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) has devoted many resources to the development of ISM and is also a significant contributor to this ITRC team. In addition to other state regulatory representatives, this guidance is also being developed by engineering consultants and state, university, government and commercial laboratories.

Dr. Bruce’s presentation will provide an overview on the draft ISM guidance related to ISM principles, systematic planning, statistical ISM design, field activity, laboratory sample processing, data assessment, and regulatory acceptance of ISM data.

Dr. Bruce has more than 27 years of analytical chemistry experience and serves as resident technical expert for method development and modification. Recent analytical advancements led by Dr. Bruce involve arsenic and mercury speciation, vapor space organics, and incremental sampling methodology.
