Award marks 14th Emmy statuette for leading innovator

BURLINGTON, MA - Avid® (NASDAQ: AVID) announced that it will once again be honored for its innovative technology by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences with an Emmy® award. The award is for the “Development and Production of Portable Tapeless Acquisition,” which the company created in the mid 1990s with partner Ikegami to improve the way production teams capture and edit video content in the field. The award, which will be presented in a special ceremony in Las Vegas during the CES Convention this week, marks the third Emmy award for Avid within the past 12 months.

“We’re honored to recognize Avid’s commitment to the broadcast market and its role in advancing the state of the art of television production,” said Charles Jablonski, Chairman of the NATAS Technology Achievement Committee. “By providing the industry with faster, reliable and cost-efficient ways to get productions to air more quickly, Avid continues to drive innovation throughout the industry and that is why we are recognizing them with this Emmy award, tonight.”

Avid will be honored with Ikegami for its joint role in developing the Editcam system, which was the first solution to fully define and practically implement the now commonly accepted functionality, feature set, advantages and practices of file-based workflows in nonlinear field editing systems. Many of Editcam’s ground-breaking features and functions – nonlinear file navigation, file and folder management/clip deletion, clip metadata tags, conditional recording, time lapse recording, timeline editing in camera, LAN/WAN connectivity – are integrated into a range of today’s leading cameras.

“Innovation is at the core of all we do and Avid is honored and privileged to once again be recognized by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for our role in developing technology that enables our customers to be more collaborative and productive,” said Avid COO Kirk Arnold. “This award is also a testament to how beneficial our partnerships with other leading companies like Ikegami can be. We’re focused on advancing innovation across the media industry to provide our joint customers with the most cost-effective and efficient workflows. Avid extends its congratulations to everyone involved in developing and advancing this technology.”
