Barnes & Noble Donates More Than 1 Million Books To Nonprofit Organizations, Schools, Libraries and Literacy Partners All Across the Country

NEW YORK, NY – – Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE: BKS), the world’s largest bookseller, today announced that it collected and donated more than one million books for children in need all over the country during its 2010 Holiday Book Drive, thanks to the generous support of customers and its enthusiastic booksellers. In addition, Barnes & Noble donated over 20,000 books to Toys for Tots, which collects and distributes toys as Christmas gifts to needy children.

Community partners who have already begun distributing the books collected by Barnes & Noble booksellers include schools, libraries, and social service organizations. Local recipients include Charlotte Emergency Housing, the Capital Area United Way, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Birmingham, Hospice of Central Iowa, Children’s Social Services of Wisconsin, Reading Is the Way Up in California, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, Fresno Reads, Little Rock’s Ronald McDonald House, Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Spread the Word Nevada Kids to Kids, St. Mary’s Hospital of New York, Children’s Aid Society NY, Books for Kids Hudson Valley Chapter, and the Greater Toledo Literacy Council.

The annual Barnes & Noble Holiday Book Drive invites customers to purchase books for donations at Barnes & Noble bookstores all across the country between November 1, 2010, and January 1, 2011.
