Lake Geode Challenge Triathlon Set for July 16

West Burlington, Iowa, Jan. 6, 2011 – The Lake Geode Challenge triathlon is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, July 16, at Geode State Park in Danville, Iowa. The Olympic-distance event provides triathletes of all abilities with a challenging race. The Lake Geode Challenge is a USA Triathlon-sanctioned event. All USAT rules will be enforced.

The event starts with a 1.5 kilometer clockwise, out-and-back swim from the Lake Geode beach. The swim is followed by a challenging 40 kilometer bike course that takes participants on a scenic loop outside Geode State Park. The race concludes with a 10 kilometer run on asphalt roads throughout the park. Chip timing will be used.

Prize money ($500, $175 and $75) will be awarded to the top three male and female winners. Additional awards will be given to the top three male and female winners in 15 age-group categories, and the top three in the Clydesdale and Athena divisions. Team awards will be given to all members of the top three teams in male, female and coed categories. All participants also will be eligible for door prizes.

The Drake restaurant in downtown Burlington, Iowa, is the event headquarters for pre-event check in, scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 15. Official race lodging is provided by Comfort Suites Motel, (319) 753-1300.

The Lake Geode Challenge is hosted by Team BEAST (Burlington Endurance Athlete Sports Team), a triathlon/endurance sports training club. Lead sponsor for the event is Great River Health Systems, West Burlington, Iowa.

Registration fees for the Lake Geode Challenge are $65 for individuals and $123 for teams through July 2. After July 2, fees increase to $85 for individuals and $135 for teams. Entry fees do not include USAT’s required one-day $10 permit for participants who are not USAT members. No refunds; no exceptions.
