Rottenstein Law Group Now Evaluating Fixodent Lawsuits

WEBWIRE

(December 30, 2010, New York, NY) The Rottenstein Law Group is now consulting nationwide with persons who might have a Fixodent lawsuit. The firm’s lawyers have begun the process of evaluating the potential claims of consumers who believe they have been injured by the zinc included as an ingredient in Fixodent brand denture adhesive products.
Because denture creams are classified as Class I medical devices by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), manufacturers are not required to list the products’ ingredients on packaging. Fixodent products manufactured by Procter & Gamble contain zinc, which aids in both adhesion and in the reduction of odor. While zinc is an essential mineral necessary, in small amounts, for normal bodily function, excessive amounts absorbed by the body can lead to the purging of too much copper, which is necessary to maintain healthy brain and nervous system function. Insufficient copper can in turn lead to neuropathy, a serious disorder affecting the nerves outside of the brain and spinal cord. Neuropathy can lead to permanent disability, and even death.
When studies linking excessive zinc to nerve damage were published, Procter & Gamble disclosed that Fixodent did, in fact, contain zinc. Despite the filing of lawsuits by injured consumers, however, Procter & Gamble merely added a warning to its Web site, while manufacturers of competing denture creams included a warning with their products’ packaging. It is the opinion of some legal experts that the failure to disclose that their products contain zinc makes certain denture cream manufacturers liable for injuries suffered by consumers of those products.
Denture cream users who have experienced changes in their health should contact a health care professional immediately. A person diagnosed with neuropathy, or any other symptoms related to zinc poisoning, should address those issues first, then contact experienced legal counsel to determine one’s eligibility for compensation from a denture cream manufacturer. The Rottenstein Law Group has set up a Web site to provide information to consumers who believe they might have been injured by a denture cream product.
