Cable operator Com Hem selects Alcatel’s IP solution for advanced triple play services in Sweden

Paris, April 20, 2006 - Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) today announced that Com Hem, the largest cable TV operator in Sweden, has selected Alcatel’s IP service routing solution for its IP/MPLS-based data backbone network, enabling the operator to offer advanced triple play services across Sweden. Once deployed, Com Hem will be able to run hundreds of broadcast channels, Video on Demand, Voice over IP and data services over the new IP/MPLS network resulting in an exceptional user experience to its customers.

Alcatel’s solution will allow the cable operator to deliver non-stop services to 38 cities in Sweden. Alcatel is also providing a set of professional services including consulting solution design, project management, installation and maintenance.

Com Hem will deploy the Alcatel 7750 Service Router (SR), the industry’s first service router designed and optimized for the delivery of high performance carrier-grade services, and the Alcatel 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM).

Com Hem joins many other top MSOs in Europe who have selected the Alcatel IP portfolio, including ntl in the UK, Telenet in Belgium and AUNA in Spain. Worldwide, Alcatel’s IP portfolio has been selected by more than 100 service providers. In the fourth quarter of 2005, Alcatel held second place worldwide for IP edge aggregation with a market share of 25.8 percent, according to Synergy Research Group.
