UltraViolet Devices, Inc. (UVDI) provides technology solutions for increased energy efficiency and improved indoor air quality (IAQ).

As January 1st is quickly approaching, cities across California are preparing to enforce the new California Green Building Standards Code (CALGreen Code). The new building codes were finalized earlier this year by California’s Building Standards Commission (CBSC) and Department of Housing and Community Development.

The new CALGreen Code states, “The purpose of this code is to improve public health, safety and general welfare by enhancing the design and construction of buildings through the use of building concepts having a reduced negative impact or positive environmental impact and encouraging sustainable construction practices in the following categories: 1. planning and design, 2. energy efficiency, 3. water efficiency and conservation, 4. material conservation and resource efficiency, and 5. environmental quality.”

UltraViolet Devices, a leading manufacturer of advanced ultraviolet disinfection products and gas phase filtration technology, offers products for HVAC systems that support compliance with several of these new strict building codes. UVDI products improve IAQ and lower HVAC operating costs while also decreasing maintenance costs.

“UVDI’s ultraviolet (UV) and molecular filtration products help improve performance of HVAC systems,” reported Richard Hayes, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for UVDI. “This is important according to the new CALGreen Codes because it not only provides for occupant comfort, but also energy efficiency and healthy indoor air quality which are major components of California’s new building codes. Properly applied UV technology has been proven to enhance operating efficiencies of HVAC systems. The same technology is recognized by ASHRAE as a solution for reducing airborne infectious disease. Activated carbon filtration is an excellent technology for removing airborne irritants such as volatile organic compounds and formaldehyde.”
