Teak Technologies Previews Plans for its Breakthrough Switching Solution for the BladeCenter-H Platform

WEBWIRE

Orange County, Calif., — April 19, 2006 — At the Server Blade Summit here today, Blade.org member Teak Technologies previewed its plans for building a breakthrough switching solution that will bring the industry closer to widespread consolidation of all data, management, clustering, and storage traffic within data centers on a unified 10-GbE network in a highly cost-efficient manner.

The data center environment is undergoing rapid change. Customers have begun to reap dividends from consolidating their servers, applications, and storage in production environments thereby curtailing equipment sprawl. However, power, cooling, utilization, complexity, and cost continue to remain key problem areas. Holistic end-to-end systems-level solutions that reduce complexity and drive virtualization-driven consolidation at the entire data center level are woefully needed. Against this backdrop networking is fast becoming the bottleneck and also the performance hub. Yet, the reality is very different. Scaling four disparate data, management, clustering, and storage networks is expensive and cumbersome and resource scale-out only complicates this connectivity.

“The economic drivers for consolidating disparate data center networks at 10-Gb/s speeds are very clear. At Teak, we think 10-GbE can be this consolidating interconnect fabric,” said Sanjay Dua, Chief Marketing Officer at Teak Technologies. “The current industry focus on reducing 10-GbE latency and consolidating I/O are steps in the right direction, but are not a complete solution in and of themselves. Our novel systems-level switching solutions will bridge this missing gap in truly enabling network consolidation at the data center level on a unified 10-GbE network.”

“Innovative solutions that deliver greater customer value typically emerge when best-of-breed ideas can be acted upon in a collaborative manner,“ said Bob Schack, VP Corporate Development at Teak Technologies. ”We plan to collaborate with other Blade.org ecosystem members in building novel switching solutions, initially for the IBM BladeCenter-H platform"

According to Dr. Juan-Antonio Carballo, Partner, IBM Venture Capital Group, “Collaborative, standards-based innovation is flourishing around open hardware ecosystems. BladeCenter and Power ecosystems are leading this disruptive industry trend with the Blade.org and Power.org consortia as rock-solid backbones for this collaboration. We are working closely with the Venture Capital community, which is increasingly committed to this groundbreaking phenomenon. Teak Technologies, a venture-backed company, is at the leading edge of this trend and is committed to developing an innovative switching solution for the BladeCenter-H platform.”

About Teak Technologies

Teak Technologies’ systems-level interconnect solutions make networked end-points productive, not just connected. Founded in 2005, the company is building a new category of protocol-agnostic switching solutions that consolidate disparate data, clustering, and storage network traffic on 10-GbE at the data center level thereby significantly reducing their complexity, improving performance, and reducing cost-of-ownership by factors of at least 10x.

Teak Technologies, a Walden International portfolio company, is headquartered in Santa Clara, California, and can be reached at www.teaktechnologies.com or by phone at 408-988-2700.
