RSNA 2010, Chicago -- Rorke Data Inc., an Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT) company and a leading provider of computer storage and archive systems, today announced that its Galaxy NAS DICOM appliance will now be available to hospitals, medical clinics and imaging facilities as a low-cost archive solution. The Galaxy solution combines HDD technology with Panasonic’s Advanced Disc for Archive (ADA) drives and encased Blu-ray based media to deliver long-life, high-capacity removable storage. The Rorke Data Galaxy NAS DICOM appliance will be featured during RSNA 2010 at the Avnet Technology Solutions exhibition booth (Booth #7036, North Hall) and the Rorke Data exhibition booth (Booth #419, Lakeside Center, Hall D).

“Rorke Data worked closely with Panasonic to create a storage device that exceeds the demanding and highly-regulated archiving requirements of the medical imaging community,” said Joe Rorke, vice president of marketing for Rorke Data, an Avnet, Inc. company. “Our new Galaxy DICOM NAS device is compact, reliable and secure. It is ideal for all data storage and archival needs, including remote storage and disaster recovery.”

The features of Rorke Data’s Galaxy DICOM NAS device include:

* Hot swappable 1TB mirrored hard drives
* Panasonic ADA drives and media, the only media based upon the Blu-ray Disc™ format that is enclosed in a protective case for secure archiving, now available in 25 and 50GB capacities
* Web-based user interface for easy installation and remote access, including data movement, query and retrieval functionality
* DICOM-compliant appliance compatible with multiple modalities and 3.0 viewing workstations
* Affordable, compact desktop solution for local storage in clinics and hospital imaging departments
* An estimated Panasonic ADA media archive life of more than 50 years

“As an original innovator of the Blu-ray optical format, Panasonic has now broadened its application with our Advanced Disc for Archive, an encased optical media specifically designed to meet customers’ needs for secure archiving,” said Robin Sweeten, group manager, strategic marketing, Panasonic Industrial Company. “Hospital and clinic staff are well accustomed to the use of cartridge-based optical media for local archiving, and Panasonic is pleased to be a part of this solution.”
