Bedbug Treatment Options Abound, But Beware of Scams

The environmental and building science professionals at Clark Seif Clark (CSC) play a key roll in identifying safe and effective identification services, prevention advices and control solutions to commercial and residential property owners who are battling bedbugs.

Bedbugs have been all over the news this year, invading properties from coast to coast. The parasitic insects have even been found in some of the fanciest hotels in major U.S. cities. Bedbugs are from the Cimicidae family of insects, which feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals including humans.

Adult bedbugs typically grow to a size of 4 to 5 millimeters and can survive in a wide range of temperatures and atmospheric conditions. Due to their size they can be difficult to identify, and their tolerance for various environmental conditions also makes them difficult to eradicate.

As bedbugs continue to be found across the nation an increase in scam treatments promising relief from the insects has also been growing. Just recently the New York Dailey News published an article entitled “With rise of bedbugs in New York come scam treatments promising relief for frazzled residents.” The article goes on to discuss various sprays, powders and plastic barriers that may provide consumers peace of mind, but little else.

Clark Seif Clark, a leading provider of indoor environmental quality (IEQ) testing and consulting services, has extensive experience dealing with bedbugs, other unwanted pests and contaminants in indoor environments. “There are a host of treatment options for people battling bedbug infestations. However, they are not all equal. Some may cause more harm than good,” reported Derrick A. Denis, V.P. Indoor Environmental Quality at CSC. “The environmental consultant is a key part of any integrated pest control management team. CSC’s mix of science and building systems expertise helps property owners and occupants select the best solutions for eradicating these parasites from their residential or commercial properties.”
