Brewer’s Foundation Donates $500,000 to Keep America Beautiful

ST. LOUIS – Anheuser-Busch is pleased to join Keep America Beautiful and communities across the country in recognizing Nov. 15 as America Recycles Day. To mark this occasion, Anheuser-Busch today announced a $500,000 gift from the Anheuser-Busch Foundation to Keep America Beautiful to support their national recycling programs. This gift will assist the organization in their ongoing efforts to educate the public on the importance of recycling and litter prevention. In addition, the donation will fund a grant program to assist event recycling by providing approximately 3,000 recycling bins to local communities across the country.

“Recycling is one of our key areas of focus when it comes to promoting environmental responsibility within our company and with our consumers,” said Dave Peacock, president of Anheuser-Busch, Inc. “This gift from our Foundation will help support Keep America Beautiful’s efforts to remind Americans about the importance of recycling and protecting the environment in their local communities.”

Keep America Beautiful and its nearly 600 affiliates educate millions of individuals about environmental stewardship and community improvement issues, as well as involve them in thousands of volunteer-based action programs nationwide. Anheuser-Busch has been supporting Keep America Beautiful since its establishment in 1953, and was one of the first corporations to address the problems of litter and waste disposal.

“Anheuser-Busch has been an outstanding partner throughout the years and this gift from their Foundation only reinforces their commitment to promote recycling and assist local event recycling initiatives,” said Matthew M. McKenna, president and CEO, Keep America Beautiful, Inc. “Our affiliate organizations are eager to begin applying for grants under the recycling bin program.” “This will greatly assist their efforts to promote recycling at sporting events, concerts and other public gatherings.”

Keep America Beautiful will execute the recycling bin program, and information on how and where to apply will be issued by the organization’s local affiliates.

Anheuser-Busch has a long history of supporting recycling programs, both inside and outside its breweries. Last year, the company’s 12 U.S. breweries recycled 99.4 percent of the solid waste generated in the brewing and packaging of their beers. Recycled materials include beechwood chips, aluminum, glass, brewers’ grain, scrap metal, cardboard and many other items. Since 1992, the company at its charitable foundation have donated more than $63 million to environmental and conservation efforts across the country.
