Verizon Mobile Services Enablement Platform Simplifies Enterprise Application Development and Deployment across a Variety of Wireless Devices

DUBLIN, CALIF. - Sybase, Inc., an SAP company (NYSE: SAP) and industry leader in enterprise mobile software, today announced its support for a new managed mobility offering from Verizon Business that significantly reduces the complexity in developing and deploying mobile applications running across a variety of back-end enterprise systems and mobile device types.

Verizon’s new Mobile Services Enablement Platform (MSEP) leverages Sybase® Managed Mobility as well as the Sybase Unwired Platform and can be fully integrated with existing Verizon Managed Mobility Solutions modules, providing a comprehensive solution for companies interested in transforming their business.

“As enterprises explore new ways to increase productivity, gain intelligence and ultimately stay competitive, mobility is rising to the top of their priority initiatives,” said, Carrie Gray, executive director of solutions marketing for Verizon. “With Verizon MSEP, we are addressing common customer pain points by reducing the complexity involved in developing, deploying and managing mobile enterprise applications. Sybase has been a strategic partner for our mobile device management and security solutions and now we are leveraging their industry-leading mobility platform and services to offer one of the industry’s most comprehensive managed mobility offerings.”

The most effective strategy for mobilizing enterprise systems and providing reliable data access from a variety of device types is a platform-based approach. With a mobility platform, enterprises and managed mobility service providers can easily integrate mobile and legacy environments in a seamless, flexible and cost-effective manner.

“We believe that more than 95% of organizations will be choosing a Mobile Enterprise Application Platform, (MEAP) or packaged mobile application vendors as their primary mobile development platforms through 2012,” states a Gartner Magic Quadrant for Mobile Enterprise Application Platforms report (December 2009)i. “From 2010 through 2013, the number of enterprises choosing multichannel MEAP vendors will rise 10% annually.”

Verizon Managed Mobility Solutions is a comprehensive, user-friendly offering that provides large global enterprises and mid-sized businesses with a fully integrated solution in key areas including: inventory and expense management, logistics, mobile device management, mobile security, and application development. Sybase’s Managed Mobility technologies have supported the mobile device management and security modules of the Verizon managed service for the past year through Sybase Afaria®, and now powers Verizon MSEP which offers:

* Heterogeneous device management for Windows Mobile, Windows 32, BlackBerry, iPhone and Symbian and Android in 2011
* Rapid application development tooling that leverages the popular Eclipse development toolset
* Out-the-box integration with enterprise applications through adapters (SAP, Remedy, Oracle, Siebel, etc.), customizable templates for users to design once and deploy to many mobile devices, and full web services stack
* Pre-packaged templates for Sybase Mobile Sales for SAP® CRM and Sybase Mobile Workflow for SAP® Business Suite

“Our in-depth expertise and longstanding leadership in mobile device management and mobile enterprise application platforms position us as a key contributor to Verizon’s comprehensive managed mobility offerings,” said Terry Stepien, president, Sybase iAnywhere. “Our open, heterogeneous platform approach and ability to rapidly support the latest devices is critical in meeting Verizon’s business and customer requirements. We look forward to expanding our partnership and driving the managed mobility service market.”
