Venture Capital Investors are targeting New Green Energy Lighting Companies

Smart venture capital investors are on the hunt for potential new green energy firms to add to their portfolios. Clean technology investments by VCs hit record levels in the first half of 2010
at $4.10 billion, and 43% of all new VC investments are now targeted at cleantech. But according to a report by Ernst & Young, investors are shifting their money from capital intensive green energy firms into companies that use technology to reduce energy use, because funding requirements are lower and the returns are often faster.

“These are more tech-type investments that the typical venture capitalist is comfortable investing in,” said Douglas Regnier, a partner at Ernst & Young in San Diego. One example of a company on the radar screen for many VC investors is Deco Lighting of Commerce, CA. A relatively new, highly profitable manufacturer, Deco Lighting is leading the lighting industry with the most innovative green technology commercial lighting products and energy solutions. Deco Lighting systems are being chosen by major universities, large military bases, major municipalities, and building owners as the best choice in their green efforts to save energy, money and improve the environment. Recognized by industry organizations for innovation and revolutionary lighting and control designs, Deco Lighting is winning many new awards and multiple patents.

Going green is a rapidly growing trend for companies in all sectors – technology, financial services, retail and manufacturing. By creating and embracing energy efficient green products and services, millions of dollars are saved and carbon emissions are reduced for the benefit of local communities and the global environment. Adapting green energy has stimulated tremendous growth in new technologies, new venture capital investment, new start-up companies and new green jobs.

In recognition of leadership in lighting, Deco Lighting was chosen by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to represent the latest innovations in green lighting solutions at the ground-breaking Governors Global Climate Summit. This international annual event brings world leaders, climate and energy experts, dignitaries and government officials from the U.S. and many countries together to promote the use of more energy efficient, environmentally-friendly products and practices to reduce global warming. “California is America’s last hope for energy change” says Governor Schwarzenegger. “Green jobs are the single largest source of job growth in California” the Governor added. This fact clearly demonstrates the green energy impact on employment that is spreading throughout the U.S.

Deco Lighting was honored to participate in the Global Climate Summit 2 in Los Angeles in September 2009, and has been chosen again to contribute to Summit 3 at the University of California at Davis, November 15-16, 2010 (http://ces,ucdavis.edu/ggcs3/). Deco Lighting will showcase innovative green lighting solutions to promote energy efficiency, sustainability, clean environmental initiatives, and the creation of new green jobs. “A new era in lighting is underway, with new advances in solid state LED technology, Induction and Plasma light sources that affect lighting design and application in the U.S. and worldwide” says Sam Sinai, Vice President of Deco Lighting. In collaboration with LUXIM, a leading manufacturer of solid state plasma lighting components, Deco Lighting is developing next generation plasma luminaires. LUXIM is one of the new lighting technology companies receiving funding from venture capital investors. Founded in 2000, LUXIM received investment funding from Sequoia Capital and Worldwide Technology Partners. “We are on a mission to educate the marketplace about these exciting new technologies.” adds Mr. Sinai. “Through our national seminars, factory tours and individual energy analysis meetings, we educate and assist specifiers, facility managers and owners to make the best green energy lighting decisions for their investment. Smart decisions that will produce the best energy savings and fastest return on investment.”

As municipalities, businesses, schools, military bases, and government agencies in the U.S. and worldwide seek ways to save on energy costs and help reduce global warming, many have found the smartest solutions with Deco Lighting. With lighting accounting for up to 40% of building energy, and buildings responsible for nearly 40% of CO2 emissions, these major consumers are discovering the economic and environmental benefits of using the latest green technology lighting.

Major consumers knowledgeable in the latest technology have determined green lighting solutions will immediately save on utility energy costs, save substantially on long term maintenance costs and speed their conversion to “go green”. Proof of this may be found in many recent Deco Lighting installations. When the U.S. Military at the world’s largest U.S. Marine base at 29 Palms, California sought to replace their inefficient HID lighting fixtures, they selected Induction technology fixtures from Deco Lighting. The new Induction fixtures provide 100,000 hour lamp life, equivalent light levels at half the wattage, better color, visibility and reliability. 50% energy savings in utility costs are achieved versus the old HID system, and additional annual maintenance costs due to fewer relamping cycles.

At the scenic 2,000 acre Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas, California the County of Los Angeles needed to replace inefficient metal halide streetlight fixtures used on roadways throughout the park. L.A. County chose Deco Lighting Induction luminaires with 100,000 hour life, similar light levels at half the wattage, and better quality illumination. With the new lighting system L.A. County is saving over 50% in utility energy costs, long term maintenance savings with fewer relampings, and superior color, visibility and safety for park visitors and staff.

Today major universities, commercial buildings, municipalities, hospitals, military bases, and shopping centers are selecting Deco Lighting to retrofit and upgrade their inefficient lighting systems to green energy systems for savings up to 85%. As more lighting specifiers, engineers, architects, facility managers and building owners become more knowledgeable of the latest technology lighting solutions, their smart decisions will accelerate the financial, environmental and social benefits of green energy.
