Symantec Consumer Business Unit Group President Receives Award For Outstanding Achievement From The Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI)

WASHINGTON, DC – – Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced that Janice Chaffin, group president of Symantec’s Consumer Business Unit, will be honored by the Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI) with the award for outstanding achievement. The award will be presented to Chaffin this evening at FOSI’s annual conference: “Internet Freedom, Safety & Citizenship: A Global Call to Action.”

“FOSI is honoring Chaffin for her tireless commitment to developing products and resources that make the web safer for families,” said Stephen Balkam, CEO, Family Online Safety Institute. “Guided by Chaffin’s leadership and passion for online safety, Norton is playing a key role in helping foster a safer Internet.”

“It’s an honor to accept this award and a privilege to work with an organization like FOSI who shares our commitment to Internet safety” said Janice Chaffin, group president, Consumer Business Unit, Symantec. “We believe that the strongest defense from cybercriminals is an educated public and are dedicated to providing the tools and resources necessary to help consumers make smart online choices and become responsible cyber citizens.”

As the Group President of the Consumer Business Unit at Symantec, Chaffin has championed Norton’s Online Family Safety Initiative, which includes a global educational outreach program and products and resources dedicated to helping parents keep their families safe from digital dangers. Under her leadership, Symantec created the Norton Family Resource website (http://us.norton.com/familyresources/index.jsp), which provides guidance for families and teens, such as articles, video tips and online safety guides as well as access to Internet safety experts and victim assistance resources.

Chaffin also guided the development of the award-winning Norton Online Family product, a free solution allowing parents not only to block inappropriate websites, but to connect with their children’s online lives and foster ongoing dialogue about safe Internet behaviors. Norton Online Family has received numerous industry and parenting awards, including PC Magazine’s “Best Tech Products of the Year,” an iParenting award for Best Software, a Mom’s Choice Award and a Webby Award honor. Earlier this year, the Norton Online Family product was made available in 25 languages allowing families around the world free access to parental controls and monitoring software.

In conjunction with FOSI’s annual conference, Norton by Symantec today released Norton Online Family Premier, which provides new premium features to parents such as online video monitoring, 90-day histories and automatic usage reports. Developed by Norton with the guidance of prominent Internet safety, parenting and child behavior experts from around the world, Norton Online Family Premier makes it even easier for parents to foster communication with their kids about safe online behavior. The basic version of Norton Online Family continues to be available for free. Both versions can be found at https://onlinefamily.norton.com.

Other Symantec experts participating in FOSI’s annual conference include Adam Palmer, Norton lead cybersecurity advisor who will speak on the “Enforcing the Law in Cyberspace” panel and Bruno Rossini, Norton Latin American public relations manager, who will speak on “The Latin American Perspective” panel.
