NPR Music’s Online Concert Series Continues With Toots and the Maytals, April 23

Concert Series, Live from the 9:30 Club, Streamed More than 1 Million Times

Washington, D.C. -- NPR Music’s series of free, live online concerts, available at www.NPR.org/music, continues with a performance by reggae legends Toots and the Maytals on Sunday, April 23.

The concert will be streamed live from the prestigious 9:30 Club, a Washington, D.C. venue known for booking breakthrough performers in all genres, including rock, punk, hip-hop and country. It will be available online for streaming until May 23.

Led by Toots Hibbert, Toots and the Maytals formed in Jamaica in 1966 and are considered key architects of reggae music – music historians credit their 1968 song “Do the Reggay” as the first use of the word to describe the genre. They have been nominated for four Grammy Awards and won for “Best Reggae Album” in 2004 with True Love.

The hit audio webcasts, produced under the All Songs Considered banner, launched in January 2005 and have featured 23 live events to date. With listener response coming from around the world, the concerts have showcased an eclectic group of performers including Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Arctic Monkeys, Belle & Sebastian, James Brown, the White Stripes, Sigur Ros, Sinead O’Connor, Death Cab for Cutie, Interpol, The Decemberists, Lucinda Williams and David Gray. Previous concerts have been listened to via NPR.org more than 1 million times, and concert-related NPR.org pages have been viewed more than 2 million times.
