LONDON, 04/13/2006, Thomson Financial, an operating unit of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) and leading provider of information and technology solutions to the worldwide financial community, today announced a new release of Thomson CAPITAL, the global settlement solution for Institutional Stockbrokers and Investment Banks. Thomson Financial has expanded functionality and instrument coverage to include corporate actions processing, stock lending and CREST settlement.

Peter Hald, European Managing Director, Transaction Services, Thomson Financial commented: “Firms are increasingly experiencing pressure to process and settle a much broader range of instruments in an integrated manner on a single platform, and we are pleased to accommodate those requirements through enhancements to the Thomson CAPITAL solution. Our customers benefit from reduced systems costs and improved risk management.”

Using its flexible workflow architecture and STP exception handling system, Thomson CAPITAL has been expanded to handle a comprehensive range of fixed income, equity, treasury and derivative products through from deal capture to clearing, settlement, and reconciliation. The enhanced functionality includes:

- Corporate Actions Processing - The Thomson CAPITAL Corporate Actions module is a fully automated, flexible solution which provides efficiency and control to a traditionally manual and error-prone process. Events are auto-generated from Central Security Depositories or external feeds, creating notifications, calculating entitlements and identifying market claims. Combined with flexible event diaries, decision-making, claims and reconciliation processes, the Thomson CAPITAL Corporate Actions system has been redesigned around the industry standards (ISO15022).

- Stock Lending - The Stock Lending module has been extensively updated to reflect the needs of equity brokers. Stock Lending functionality includes cash and basket transactions including DBVs. From a single screen the module has advanced fee and interest management for simplified payment and invoice reconciliation. Users can fully monitor and predict cash and collateral obligations across multi-currencies and instruments by leveraging the fully integrated cash and stock management features of the CAPITAL solution. For example, users can select stocks that they may wish to loan out from a list of available stock.

- CREST Settlement - The CREST module has been built upon the solid foundations of the CAPITAL Global messaging engine which ensures that future Single Settlement Engine (SSE) enhancements and changes to CREST messaging can be handled easily. The module supports both DEX and ISO15022 standard messages, real-time monitoring of market status updates, automated settlement, and cash and stock reconciliation, all of which is fully integrated into the STP workflow management and exception handling processes, allowing status messages to be retrieved from CREST, and providing full control and audit trails for compliance purposes.
