TestAmerica Speaks on EPA’s Revised Total Coliform Rule and Laboratory Data Interpretation at the 2010 Water Quality Conference

WEBWIRE

TestAmerica’s Trevor Brenner, Operations Manager, and Dave Dawes, Quality Assurance (QA) Manager, will provide presentations covering the latest developments of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Revised Total Coliform Rule (RTCR), and the importance of data interpretation as part of a laboratory’s QA program. The presentations will be given on November 4, 2010 at the 2010 Water Quality and Regulatory Conference in Ontario, California.

The proposed RTCR was signed by the EPA in June 2010, concluding over three years of effort to update the 1989 Total Coliform Rule (TCR). The RTCR will apply to all water systems and the revisions will shift the regulatory focus to assessing and resolving potential issues in the water distribution system. Mr. Brenner will reveal the effects of the RTCR on current water systems, and illustrate the new developments and challenges from the previous TCR.

The second presentation, given by Mr. Dawes, will discuss the interpretation of quality assurance data in a laboratory report. Each quality parameter will be discussed in depth, in order to provide an overall understanding of the validity and limitations of the reported data. Mr. Dawes will also provide an overview of data qualifiers, reporting limits, and calibrations.

Mr. Brenner has been in the environmental testing industry for over 13 years. Currently, he is the Operations Manager at TestAmerica’s Irvine laboratory, which is the largest Drinking Water facility in the TestAmerica network. Mr. Brenner has extensive knowledge of EPA methodologies and laboratory quality control procedures and continues to work with a wide variety of Industrial Wastewater, Municipal, and Oil Company clients.

Mr. Dawes has 25 years of analytical chemistry and quality assurance experience. He has extensive analytical experience in general chemistry methodologies. In addition to his analytical experience, Mr. Dawes has developed databases to monitor various aspects of the laboratory QA program, reviewing trends, and tracking laboratory data.
