There’s no doubt that Lance Armstrong is one of cycling’s modern-day superheroes. And it’s no surprise that he’s chosen South Australia’s Santos Tour Down Under as his last professional cycling race on international soil.

Armstrong, who has raced the event in South Australia on two previous occasions (2009 & 2010), is not shy to proclaim his love of South Australia and the Santos Tour Down Under UCI ProTour cycling event.

Armstrong said he was looking forward to returning to South Australia.

“I’m excited to be competing in my last professional ride outside the US at the Santos Tour Down Under,” he said.

"It will be my third time to the event, and I’m sure I will enjoy it as much as I have the first two times.

“I look forward to racing and also checking in on the progress in South Australia.”

The Adventure Collective is Official Tour Operator of the 2011 Santos Tour Down Under, and offers a range of different packages to cater to both cyclists and spectators. Packages range from a single day to a full week, with a pre-tour training camp hosted by Patrick Jonker, himself a former teammate of Armstrong and past Santos Tour Down Under winner.

The Adventure Collective CEO, Peter Solly, was thrilled with the announcement.

“The Santos Tour Down Under is always a spectacular event. Yesterday’s announcement that Lance will be back in 2011 is the icing on the cake.

“I call this event the ‘People’s Race’ – no other pro cycling race gives the opportunity to get close to the action like the Santos Tour Down Under.

“We love sharing our passion for South Australia and this great sporting event with our customers.
