FALLS CHURCH, Va., – CSC (NYSE: CSC) announced today that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) awarded the company a contract to provide support services to the Biomedical Translational Research Information System (BTRIS) and Clinical Research Information System (CRIS) programs. The contract, which was awarded during CSC’s fiscal 2011 second quarter, has a one-year base period and four one-year options, bringing the estimated total value to $54 million.

Under the terms of the agreement, CSC will provide systems integration, project management and integrated data repository development for the NIH Clinical Center.

BTRIS is a user-friendly solution that consolidates data, text and images from disparate NIH systems by automating and integrating data access. CRIS is a hospital information system supporting clinical care and the collection of research data for NIH clinical research programs.

“For nearly 10 years, CSC has proudly supported the NIH research community and the agency’s mission to seek and apply fundamental knowledge about the nature and behavior of living systems,” said Dr. Robert Wah, vice president and chief medical officer of CSC’s North American Public Sector. “This work demonstrates the evolution that we see as the healthcare industry moves from paper records to electronic health records, then to interoperable networks and to this next stage of powerful analytics and population analysis.”

The Clinical Center research information systems must meet the demand of clinicians providing direct patient care, as well as provide additional and aggregate data from multiple patient groups to apply to large patient classes.
