99% of clean-up work has been completed / Production has resumed and is increasing

Production work at the Bombardier Transportation site in Bautzen (Germany) has resumed and is increasing. Two months ago the Bombardier Bautzen site, where trams and light rail vehicles are being manufactured, was hit by a flood in the Saxony area. Clean-up efforts were embarked upon immediately, 99% of the facility has now been cleaned and the infrastructure has been restored.

Production resumed at the Bautzen site in September. Since then welding production has gradually increased. Other sections will follow within the next weeks. Full production readiness is expected to be achieved by the end of the year. Bombardier’s Görlitz site situated near-by has been supporting Bautzen since early August. A team of 40 Bautzen workers has been transferred to Görlitz to produce parts and components in order to get projects up to speed as soon as possible.

Damage assessment in close cooperation with the insurer has been continuing since the day of the flood. The financial impact for Bombardier Transportation amounts to $20 million US representing the self insured amount under the insurance policies, which will be recorded in the third quarter.

“Two months after the flood it is time to take stock of recent developments at our Bautzen site. The results achieved to date are impressive as our highly motivated and committed workforce in Bautzen established a crisis relief team straight away and started clean-up efforts immediately. We are back in production and are making further progress day by day. I am confident that we will be back at full capacity soon,” said Germar Wacker, President Light Rail Vehicles, Bombardier Transportation.

Trams and light rail vehicles from Bautzen are already in successful revenue service, for example, in Adelaide, Berlin, Bremen, Dortmund, Frankfurt/Main, Gdansk, Heidelberg, Krakow, Ludwigshafen, Mannheim, Nantes, Norrköping, Leipzig, London Docklands, Rotterdam, Stockholm and Valencia.
