Satellite TV companies like DirecTV and Dish Network are making every effort to retain existing customers and find new ones by offering a new type of service that follows viewers around. They are now offering features that allow the viewer to continue watching a program while switching rooms within the house, watch programs on a computer while both at home and away, and even a service that allows a person to watch from their mobile device.

One of the earliest devices with a similar functionality is called a Slingbox. It’s a standalone box that can be attached to user’s television and internet connection which allows the user to access their television from a remote online connection. It’s a bit on the “techie” side, but it is an option. However, nowadays the satellite companies have made the entire process easier by allowing consumers to utilize their accounts remotely with a simple login name and password. This can be done with both computers and mobile devices capable of the data transfer and rich media display.
