Atos Origin System facilitates Volunteer Drive

WEBWIRE

London - Atos Origin, an international IT services company, has today announced that the information technology systems designed by the company for the London 2012 Games are successfully facilitating the drive to recruit up to 70,000 volunteers who will be called Games Makers.

The volunteer portal, which has been designed, built and tested by Atos Origin in conjunction with London 2012, will be the main channel of communication between the volunteers and London 2012. Volunteers will be able to track their application on-line and once allocated a role, they will be able to find out what the role entails and news on training all via the portal. Atos Origin will continue to manage and host the London 2012 Games Maker portal.

“The volunteer portal delivered by Atos Origin provides us with an excellent and easy to use tool to recruit and manage the brilliant Games Makers that will help us deliver a great Olympic and Paralympic Games,” said Jean Tomlin, Director of Human Resources at London 2012. “Atos Origin has worked with us to deliver a solution that enables us to cost effectively manage all applications and to keep applicants informed about the status of their application.”

“Successful delivery of the volunteer portal marks completion of the first technology milestone for the London 2012 Games and confirms that our technology plans are on schedule,” said Michele Hyron, Chief Integrator for the London 2012 Games. “Volunteers make the Games happen, so we have designed the portal to make it easy and fast for people to apply as well being cost effective and simple for London 2012 to manage the entire volunteer recruitment process.”

Between now and the start of the Games, Atos Origin, as lead integrator, will work with its fellow technology partners under the direction of LOCOG’s Technology Department to build and test the extensive technology infrastructure and systems. This will include conducting more than 200,000 hours of testing to ensure that the technology provided for the Olympic Games delivers a gold winning performance and processing accreditations that serve as a visa for athletes, workforce, volunteers, media, sponsors, officials and other members of the Olympic and Paralympic Families to enter the UK as well as accessing the venues.
