BLOOMFIELD, Conn., - CIGNA and several of its clients have been recognized as 2010 CDHC Solutions Magazine Superstars.

In the large company category, Land O’Lakes, under the benefits leadership of Pamela Grove, was awarded the 2010 Superstar Award for Most Effective Plan Implementation; Pitney Bowes, under the benefits leadership of Mary Bradley, director of health care benefits was recognized for Most Innovative Plan Implementation; and Saint-Gobain Corporation, under the benefits leadership of Robert Pierce, was awarded the 2010 Superstar Award for the Most Innovative Employee Education/Communication Award for Tools to Exceed Plan Participation. Garden Fresh Restaurant Corp. which does business as Souplantation and Sweet Tomatoes restaurants won in the mid-sized company category, under the benefits leadership of Lisa Sorce, for Most Effective Communication Plan. A CEO Solutions Leadership Superstars award went to Harris H. Simmons, chairman, president and CEO of Zions Bancorporation.

These individuals and their companies won the awards for effective implementation of consumer directed health care (CDHC) plans that effectively improved the health-related behavior of their employees by actively engaging them in their own health care. The results are lower health care costs for both individual employees and their employer.

“The CDHC Solutions Magazine Superstars Awards honor the best-of-the-best in consumer directed heath care,” said Doug Field, editor-in chief and publisher of the magazine. “We strive to recognize and share best practices so all companies, large and small, can reap the benefits that consumer directed health care has to offer.”

In addition, CIGNA’s John Young won a Superstar Award for being a catalyst for making consumer driven health the fastest-growing employee benefit strategy for employers with 100 to 5,000 employees.

“Consumer driven plans are changing how employees choose to purchase health care and how they effectively ‘own’ their health and take steps to improve it. Consumers are the only ones who can create a sustainable, cost-effective health care system,” said Young. “If the share of Americans enrolled in a consumer-directed plan rose from a current 18 percent to 50 percent, and the best practices were applied, the U.S. could achieve $350 billion in savings over 10 years.”
