Nera awarded EUR 7,2 million network contract in Italy

07.04.2006, Nera ASA has recently, through its subsidiary Nera Networks, been awarded a contract to build a complete “Regional Wireless Network and Security Center” for Molise, an Italian Public Administration Region. Nera Networks won the contract in a European public tender, and the delivery includes Nera’s new Evolution Series.

- Nera Networks will, as the system integrator, deliver a complete turn-key solution for the Region, including Evolution Series, Nera’s new wireless point-to-point radios, WiMAX and WiFi equipment, routers, software and other IT infrastructure. This entails that we will, together with our partners, design, plan, assemble, install and maintain the entire network for the Public Administration – says Øyvind Isaksen, President of Nera Networks. He further states that the new Evolution Series significantly changes the microwave radio concept used in backhaul networks. Based on a common software defined platform, its flexibility and adaptability creates several competitive advantages for microwave based transmission networks.

The network is part of the projects related to the Society of Information development in Italy and particularly in the Molise Region, and has two overall objectives; i) improve the broadband connectivity for public administrations and for citizens in the regions through the introduction of wireless access technologies and ii) increase the general security of the ICT infrastructure for the Molise Region through a “computer science” security centre. The network architecture will be compatible with the existing network and adhere to the principle of scalability and adaptability. This means that the Molise Region can rapidly increase the data capacity of its network and easily adapt to new technologies and solutions without unnecessarily large expenditures.

Nera Networks will through this project further develop its competence in delivering wireless broadband network solutions that go beyond the traditional business of wireless radio equipment.

The order will be part of order intake in Q1.
