Philips named supersector leader of its category in the 2010 review of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index

WEBWIRE

Amsterdam, The Netherlands - Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) today announced that it has achieved supersector leader classification in the Personal and Household Goods category of the 2010 Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI). This result underlines Philips’ ongoing commitment to sustainability as an integral part of the company’s health and well-being strategy.

Philips’ continued investments in its brand, end-user-driven innovation and positive customer experiences consistently place sustainability at the core of business practices across the company. This philosophy has translated into notable DJSI ranking recognition for Philips on such aspects as climate strategy and on such social indicators as its human capital development.

“We’re very pleased with our position on this year’s DJSI ranking, confirming our belief that sustainability is a true business driver at Philips” said Rudy Provoost, Chairman of Philips’ Sustainability Board and CEO of Philips Lighting. "We will continue to raise the bar in this area through our overall business practices and through our health and well-being portfolio, which responds to today’s pressing global trends. This is clearly articulated through our EcoVision5 commitments announced earlier this year.”

Under the program name EcoVision5, Philips outlined three sustainability targets for 2015 in the areas of care, energy efficiency and recycling.

Notes to the editor on EcoVision5:

To deliver on the “sense and simplicity” brand promise, while providing strategic sustainability direction, Philips has identified three key performance indicators. By 2015 Philips aims to:

* Bring care to more than 500 million people
Target: 500 million lives touched by 2015
* Improve energy efficiency of Philips products
Target: 50% improvement by 2015 (for the average total product portfolio) compared to 2009
* Close the material loop
Target: Double global collection, recycling amounts and recycled materials in products by 2015 compared to 2009.
