The Hit Reality Program Becomes the First Television Series To Create its Own SU2C Team to Raise Cancer Research Funds

“Survivor: Africa” Winner—and Cancer Survivor—Ethan Zohn Will Serve as Spokesperson for the Team’s Fundraising Efforts

Network PSAs Featuring Fan-Favorite Survivors Will Direct Viewers to the Donation Page throughout the Year

CBS’s SURVIVOR has formed a unique, long-term alliance with Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), a grassroots movement raising much-needed funds for groundbreaking cancer research. SURVIVOR is the first television series to create a team for the SU2C Team Challenge to fundraise for Stand Up To Cancer. Donations to the Survivor Stands Up team can be made year-round via www.standup2cancer.org/survivor.

Ethan Zohn, who won SURVIVOR: AFRICA, competed in SURVIVOR: ALL STARS and recently overcame Hodgkin’s lymphoma, appeared on CBS News’s THE EARLY SHOW this morning to announce the partnership and his new role as spokesperson for the SURVIVOR team’s SU2C fundraising efforts.

Said Zohn, “I’m a Survivor in every sense of the word and that’s why I’m so excited to be part of this movement to outwit cancer for good. In my eyes, this is my Survivor moment, my legacy… It’s better than winning the million dollars.”

Among Zohn’s additional outreach as spokesperson will be an ongoing blog which he will host on the www.standup2cancer.org/survivor donation page. His introductory blog was posted this morning, and blogs from other Survivors will be posted there periodically as well. Zohn will also be featured during the STAND UP TO CANCER television event, to be broadcast live and commercial-free Friday, Sept. 10 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on CBS as well as additional participating networks and cable outlets.

A CBS PSA campaign driving viewers to the Survivor SU2C donations page will launch tonight and run throughout the year. One hundred percent of all contributions will go directly to research. Among the Survivors participating in the spots are fan-favorites such as Rupert Boneham, Amber Brkich-Mariano, James Clement, Colby Donaldson, Cirie Fields, Russell Hantz, Jerri Manthey, Rob Mariano, Jenna Morasca, Parvati Shallow, James “JT” Thomas Jr., Sandra Diaz-Twine, Benjamin “Coach” Wade, Tom Westman and Ethan Zohn.

“SURVIVOR remains one of the most popular shows on TV, and over the last ten years we’ve seen it grow into something truly special,” said Anne O’Grady, Executive Vice President, CBS Marketing. “But throughout its run, cancer has touched several of our contestants, giving far greater meaning to the title of the show. All of us at CBS are extremely proud to make SURVIVOR a player in the quest to outwit cancer – and we’re thrilled that Ethan has signed on to serve as the SURVIVOR SU2C spokesperson.”

“My father is a cancer survivor and my mother died of cancer so this cause is very important to me,” said Mark Burnett, Creator/Executive Producer of SURVIVOR. “I’m proud of CBS and the Survivor family for making this happen with SU2C.”

Since the spring of 2000, SURVIVOR has traveled to the farthest corners of the planet with over 300 contestants.

Stand Up To Cancer will return to primetime television on September 10, 2010, at 8:00 PM, ET/PT and 7:00 PM CT. The one-hour fundraising event will be simulcast live and commercial-free on ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, Bio, Discovery Health, E!, G4, HBO, HBO Latino, MLB Network, SHOWTIME, Smithsonian Channel, The Style Network, Telemundo, TV One and VH1, and hosted by network news anchors Katie Couric, Diane Sawyer and Brian Williams.
