ORLANDO, FL, April 4, 2006 -- Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] Vice President Joe Myers has been selected to receive the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Frances Perkins Vanguard Award during ceremonies next month at the annual SBA Procurement Conference and Awards Banquet in Washington, D.C. The award honors government and industry executives for their excellence in the use of women-owned small businesses as prime contractors and subcontractors.

Joe Myers served as vice president of Materials, Acquisitions and Management for Lockheed Martin’s Missiles and Fire Control business area from 1997 through 2005. Under his leadership and direction, Lockheed Martin increased its subcontract awards to women-owned small businesses by 303 percent. In addition, Lockheed Martin’s subcontract awards to small disadvantaged businesses increased by 175 percent, and awards to small businesses overall increased by 102 percent. Joe Meyers now serves as Vice President of Special Projects.

“We could not have achieved such performance without his leadership,” said Supplier Diversity Manager Evelyn Mills, at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control.

In 2005, Lockheed Martin’s Missiles and Fire Control business unit awarded subcontracts to more than 3,000 small businesses, more than 60 of which received subcontracts in excess of $1 million, and 13 of which are women-owned small businesses.

In addition to increasing subcontract awards to small businesses, Myers was responsible for initiating Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control’s Small Business Program, which has inspired a culture committed to supplier development, mentoring, performance management and training.

The Frances Perkins Vanguard Award recipients are evaluated based on their commitment to leadership, advocacy, innovation and implementation of initiatives that support women-owned small businesses in prime contracting and subcontracting programs.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin employs about 135,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The corporation reported 2005 sales of $37.2 billion.
