Who Are You? Genealogy Conference for the Nation’s Genealogists

4 August 2010 – Genealogy bug biting you? Beginner? Long-time family historian? Interested in online research? The exciting annual Federation of Genealogical Societies Conference takes place in just two weeks. Everyone with an interest in genealogy and history is invited to this conference in Knoxville, Tennessee.

The four day genealogical extravaganza takes place from August 18-21, 2010 at the Knoxville Convention Center. The full program is at www.fgs.org. It’s chock full of lectures on databases, records, libraries, archives, websites, and more presented by top notch speakers from around the U.S. The local hosts are the East Tennessee Historical Society and the Kentucky Historical Society.

The new Archivist of the United States, David Ferriero, will be speaking at the FGS Focus on Societies Luncheon on Wednesday, August 18th. This luncheon is open to all conference registrants with the purchase of a luncheon ticket. Mr. Ferriero will be speaking on the Citizen-Archivist and about the new and amazing War of 1812 Pension Records Digitization Project http://fgs.org/1812/. He will also have a question and answer period.

Did you watch “Who Do You Think You Are?” on NBC TV? The main sponsor, Ancestry.com, has many learning opportunities during this conference. Others who worked on the show and the research will be with us including D. Joshua Taylor, MLS, who worked with Sarah Jessica Parker on the first episode. Josh will be lecturing and you might catch him at the Exhibit Hall booth of the New England Historic Genealogical Society where he is Director of Education and Programs.

The Exhibit Hall where genealogical and historical organizations, businesses and major database suppliers offer their wares, advice, and memberships is open to the public on Thursday 9:30-5, Friday noon - 7, and Saturday 9-5.
