WEBWIRE

HOUSTON, TX – July 9, 2010 – Steve Ford, son of the late President Gerald Ford, will be a featured guest July 31, at a special one-time exclusive production of “Bald in the Land of Big Hair,” a cancer-themed performance at the Main Street Theater in Houston’s Montrose area.

Ford is attending in honor of his 92-year-old mother Betty Ford, who lives in Rancho Mirage, CA. The former first lady famously and publicly fought breast cancer in 1974.

The play is based on the humorous and poignant 2002 New York Times best-selling book of the same name by Texas writer Joni Rodgers, who was diagnosed and treated for cancer. Rodgers, who lives in The Woodlands area, a Houston suburb, will be present for the one-woman play starring award-winning Houston actress Lisa Hamilton. Hamilton plays Rodgers in the autobiographical production.

Pink Ribbons Project, a nonprofit Houston organization that supports the fight against breast cancer is presenting the event and Houston-based Hope Tree Home Loans is a major sponsor along with media sponsor KUHF, Houston Public Radio. Proceeds from the event will go to The Rose, a nonprofit breast cancer organization that provides screening, diagnosis and access to treatment for all women, regardless of their ability to pay.

Tickets are available for $100. Sponsorship opportunities are also available starting at $1,000.
