Cinnaminson, NJ

Recently residents of Douglas County, Nebraska were faced with overwhelming flooding in the King Lake area. Flood waters entered numerous properties and since the area primarily utilizes septic tanks, concerns over sewage contamination are now just as prevalent as issues due to mold growth and the destruction caused by the water itself.

As of last week, over 20 homes have been labeled by code enforcement as being in such a dangerous condition that people are not allowed to live inside. Over 100 homes have been inspected so far. These flooded properties not only have to deal with water damage issues and likely subsequent mold growth, but also environmental concerns since the flood waters likely contained sewage, bacteria and chemical contaminants that were deposited in the properties.

The flooding and excessive moisture also leads to mold growth in as short as 24 hours causing indoor air quality (IAQ) problems making rebuilding in the area that much more difficult and costly. EMSL Analytical, one of the nation’s leading IAQ laboratories with over 30 locations nationwide, has made their services available for area residents. The laboratory has the expertise to test for mold, bacteria, mycotoxins, endotoxins, sewage contamination indicator organisms and all types of chemical contaminants.

“People across Douglas County have already been hit hard by the recent flooding and EMSL is there to help,” reported Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President at EMSL Analytical. “It’s important to act quickly to prevent this natural disaster from turning properties into environmental hazards. EMSL offers many affordable tests that property owners can use to determine if contaminants are present, and if so, to what extend based on environmental sampling in the flooded properties.”

EMSL has been offering testing services following natural and manmade disasters since its inception in 1981. For more information on testing services and products provided by EMSL please call (800) 220-3675, visit www.EMSL.com or email info@EMSL.com.
