Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games technology in operational phase

WEBWIRE

Singapore - The Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC) and Atos Origin – the Worldwide Information Technology Partner for the Olympic Games – today announced the official opening of the Technology Operations Centre (TOC).

The TOC, located at the SYOGOC headquarters, is the nerve centre where all critical Singapore 2010 IT systems and infrastructure are monitored and managed. The TOC links and supports technology operations in multiple venues to allow for swift response and rectification in the event of any unexpected incidence impacting the IT systems.

The TOC is operational during the Validation Exercise from 11 to 20 June 2010, to support and monitor the Games IT Systems for five sports at four venues – Rowing, Canoe-kayak, Gymnastics, Tennis and Archery. More than 200 staff from SYOGOC and partners were involved in the set up of the technology infrastructure at these venues. The systems deployed include data networks, telecommunication, accreditation, timing & scoring, results distribution, incident management and IT support. During the validation exercise, all the activities and systems were monitored 18 hours each day by the TOC. During the games, the TOC will be expanded to support all the competition and other non-competition venues.

“The Technology Operations Centre is a key component in the development of the IT infrastructure for the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games,” said Mr Patrick Adiba, Executive Vice President, Olympic Games at Atos Origin. “With the successful completion of this critical milestone, we are now ready for the operations phase where we will continue to test the systems and put in place processes and procedures for the smooth operations of the Singapore 2010 IT systems.”

“The TOC is the central location where the Games IT systems are managed and monitored, and where critical decision-making and co-ordination between the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee and technology partners are made. We would like to thank members of the Technology team for their tireless efforts and excellent team work in achieving this critical milestone on schedule,” said Ms Lim Bee Kwan, Director of Technology Division at SYOGOC.

The TOC houses advanced system management and monitoring tools that enhance the readiness of the IT operations team to prevent, detect and rectify problems such as faulty hardware, system failure, potential viruses and hacking to ensure the smooth running of the inaugural Youth Olympic Games across 18 competition venues.

All systems deployed for the Games, including games management system, results systems, Internet websites, and networks would also be monitored from the TOC. The centre will be manned 24/7 throughout the 12-day Games period by over 160 IT professionals from the SYOGOC Technology Division, Atos Origin, Omega, SingTel and many other partners who have been trained to monitor and resolve any problems relating to the IT systems.
