Rochester, NY, March 29 -- The world’s oldest printer is turning to Kodak for the graphic communication industry’s newest MIS system. Cambridge University Press of Cambridge, England, will become the first European beta site of the KODAK Enterprise Management Solution (EMS).

The printing and publishing arm of the University of Cambridge, Cambridge University Press is one of the largest academic and educational publishers in the world, producing 2,000 books and 150 journals a year that are sold to some 200 countries across the globe. The book printing division joins beta users of KODAK EMS software in the United States, where the EMS system has been running successfully.

KODAK EMS software is a complete business workflow solution that helps manage graphic communications businesses from the field to the front office, through production and across the back office. It provides a level of functionality that extends beyond traditional print MIS, and is designed to allow printers to seamlessly integrate print and business workflows, improving business efficiency and profitability.

At the core of KODAK EMS software is a robust manufacturing enterprise resource planning software (ERP) solution. KODAK EMS software is also highly scaleable and can be utilized by as few as five users or across many plants by hundreds of users. KODAK EMS software will offer localization options, including support for local languages, the ability to run multiple localizations within a single system and localization of the financial packages, for deployment in multiple countries across the globe.

“KODAK EMS software promises to meet the complex needs of Cambridge University Press’s book printing division,” said Sandra Ward, Managing Director, Cambridge University Press, Printing. “We are in the market for software that will improve customer retention and satisfaction at the same time that it empowers our shop floor personnel to improve our business processes. We think Kodak’s offering has the very real potential to meet these needs, hence our becoming the first European beta site. It is important to us that a system has the ability to meet our needs today and to continue to grow with us.”

Cambridge Printing, the printing business of Cambridge University Press, is the oldest printing business in the world. It was founded on a royal charter granted to the University by Henry VIII in 1534 and has been operating continuously since its first book was published in 1584.

“Cambridge University Press has prospered through the centuries by embracing new technologies to improve production efficiency and optimize its business. That’s exactly what KODAK EMS software is designed to do,” said Bob Kutschke, General Manager, Business Workflow, Kodak. “We are very proud that KODAK EMS software will help the Press continue its vital mission of advancing knowledge, education, learning and research.”

Designed for printers whose businesses extend beyond traditional offset printing operations, KODAK EMS software provides advanced tools for proactively managing business processes throughout the different stages of production. KODAK EMS software offers capabilities to deal with complex environments that include digital print workflows, customer and supplier relationship management, fulfillment operations, and quality management among many other functions.
