npower introduces innovative applications for Brits on the go

WEBWIRE

npower is set to shake up the energy market by launching its first smart phone app available on both the Android and Apple platforms allowing large numbers of customers to input meter readings as well as providing access to exclusive content.

The innovative application is the first of its kind from a utility company to be developed for the new Google Nexus One phone (Android platform), which hit stores on 30th April 2010.

The application which is now downloadable on both Apple and Android phones, has been developed to provide a helpful, functional and fun app which will allow customers to give fast and accurate phone meter readings. At the tap of their phone, users will be able to register their meter readings, find answers to frequently asked questions, find emergency contact numbers, a fun game and all the npower Wallace and Gromit TV ads, including the new one - ’Hand of Dog’.

Tony Summers, Internet and Emerging Technologies manager at npower said: "We didn’t just want to develop an iPhone app, as is the trend; we want to reach a broader range of customers, which is why we also developed an Android version to coincide with the launch of the new Google Nexus phone.

“Our aim is to fully utilise smart phone technology in order to help our customers manage their energy consumption. We are already working on future versions that will offer customers even more functionality in the palm of their hand”.

Gone are the days of estimated energy bills; the application provides a fantastic means to manage energy spending ’on the go’. This fun application can also brighten up journeys, allowing users to view npower’s popular Wallace & Gromit TV ads and try their hand at the npower orb power game.
