AvMed Members Use Subimo(R) Tools to Improve Health

Chicago, IL, 01/25/2005 -- AvMed Health Plans, Florida’s largest not-for-profit health plan, now offers its 200,000 members Subimo’s interactive healthcare decision-support tools designed to review individualized options regarding health care and cost decisions.

Under the arrangement, AvMed will incorporate Healthcare Advisor™ and Coverage Advisor™ as comprehensive resources for web access to information on medical conditions, treatment paths, hospital quality comparisons and health plan coverage options. Subimo’s Healthcare Advisor also provides consumers with guidelines on important questions to ask their doctors in an effort to increase comfort levels and improve outcomes.

According to Jarett Weinpel, AvMed Manager of Product Development and Strategic Planning, “Consumer-driven health plans increase the consumer’s responsibility for the way they spend their healthcare dollars and, in turn, the way they access information and education.”

“Offering Subimo tools advances health consumerism in a responsible manner,” he said, “because we will now offer easy-to-understand scenarios for our members to use at their own pace ...when, where and how they want. Ultimately, they can be confident in making decisions about their health care quality and value,” Weinpel explained.

AvMed, recently ranked sixth in member satisfaction among the top 25 health care plans nationwide, is committed to improving the health of its members with access to quality health care services.

“AvMed is proud of its customer satisfaction rating and Subimo is in sync with our high touch value proposition. Subimo’s step-by-step approach of reviewing individualized options helps our members make sound healthcare decisions regarding quality and costs,” he explained. “It goes way beyond cost savings…we want positive health outcomes,” Weinpel added.

“Healthcare Advisor focuses on a member’s current health dilemma, helps them understand treatment and provider options, and then reviews a synopsis of quality and cost comparisons,” according to Subimo president Ann Mond Johnson. “Coverage Advisor takes a step back and teams with AvMed to estimate utilization and costs based on a member’s family profile so they can make appropriate health plan choices,” she said.

“AvMed’s member advocacy reputation and service-driven values made it a perfect partner for framing health care options from an individual’s perspective instead of merely composing lists of confusing statistics. In fact, all Subimo products are driven by new consumer and employer demands for help in understanding their roles in improving their health and controlling spiraling costs,” she concluded.
