Los Angeles Artist Devin Crane (http://devincrane.com/) has created a new collection of 17 paintings that juxtaposes high fashion, sexuality and theology. At 7:00 PM on the 26th of May, Devin Crane will debut his latest collection of art at the prestigious Galerie Arludik in Paris, France titled “Heaven Can Wait.” This will mark his first international solo exhibit.

A middle-class native of Los Angeles, California, Devin was surrounded by friends with considerable wealth and fancy toys who exposed him with a taste for the good life. He grew up very aware of luxury brands and cultivated his love for fashion at an early age. The iconic designs of Dior, Versace, Lagerfeld, Galliano, and Valentino are some of Devin’s inspirations.

Crane’s current collection “Heaven Can Wait” captures the light and dark side of the human condition. “I wanted to bathe each painting in heavenly light and contrast with dark pieces of turmoil. This represents the choices we make in life that can either bring us absolute pleasure or confinement in our self-made prisons.” Devin’s unique approach to painting creates a new genre of westernized stylization that emphasizes the eyes of his subjects and proportions inspired by vintage fashion drawings. “Shoe Heaven” plays with the idea of a heavenly light bathing its subject, and the exquisite joy brought by the things we love. Fashion allows us to live a fantasy and express who we are as individuals. “Waiting in Klimt” depicts a young glamorous woman all dressed up and alone.

Upon closer examination of his work, Crane’s obsession with theology and antiquity was influenced by his Catholic school education. This was also evident in his last collection “Love and Tears.” In the new collection “Heaven Can Wait,” pieces such as “An Angel in Versace” juxtapose theology and high fashion, while others such as “Gateway to Heaven” draw from the Pagan ideas of the woman being the “chalice” of total fulfillment.

Crane’s paintings are in esteemed private collections ranging from Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Paris, London, and Hong Kong. Over the last 15 years, Devin has been employed as a lead designer with the world’s top film studios including Warner Brothers, Walt Disney Feature Animation and DreamWorks Animation.
