* Advanced cathode materials for Lithium-ion batteries to support higher energy density, safety and efficiency
* Innovative diesel engine emissions control catalysts that can eliminate the urea injection system
* Keropur® fuel additives for improved fuel economy, lower emissions and a better driving experience

Ludwigshafen, Germany - BASF – The Chemical Company is showcasing innovative solutions for the automotive industry at the 31st International Vienna Motor Symposium, held in Vienna, Austria from April 29-30. For decades, the International Vienna Motor Symposium has served as a rallying point for the international world of automotive engineering. At this symposium, the latest innovations in engine development, future legislation, new engines and fuels, components, electronics and drivetrains are presented, along with a technical exhibition.

The BASF “Virtual Car” – a three-dimensional model of solutions for the automobile industry – is on display in the technical exhibition. At this symposium, BASF is showcasing innovative solutions to help the automotive industry meets its goals to improve battery technology, reduce emissions, and boost fuel economy.

BASF offers a portfolio of advanced application specific cathode materials to support higher energy density, improved safety due to a higher thermal runaway temperature, and increased efficiency by enabling more discharge/charge cycles for batteries. The BASF NCM product family is a cathode active material for lithium ion batteries. Due to very high degrees of purity and excellent product characteristics, the material is well suited for demanding applications such as batteries for automotive drivetrains.

A diesel powertrain can improve fuel economy, but it can also present emissions control challenges. BASF Catalysts division is developing solutions to cost-effectively address these challenges. The DOC/LNT (Diesel Oxidation Catalyst/Lean NOx Trap) and SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) on Filter system combines four technologies on just two components to help the automotive industry meet strict diesel engine emissions regulations, such as Euro 6. No urea injection system, including tank and controls, is required since the DOC/LNT can generate ammonia for the SCR. Combining four catalyst functionalities on just two substrates enables the OEM to reduce weight, space and cost by eliminating substrates and canning from the exhaust system, as well as the need for a urea injection system.

BASF Keropur® fuel additives help keep your engine clean and protect the entire fuel system. The portfolio comprises gasoline and diesel performance packages for effective engine cleanliness, improved fuel economy, corresponding lower emissions and a better driving experience.

As the chemical industry’s largest automotive supplier, BASF and its innovative solutions can help automotive manufacturers to fulfill car buyers’ demands and produce more cost-efficiently.
