Austrian Ambassador Speaks at Ungerboeck

ST. LOUIS, April 9, 2010 – Dr. Christian Prosl, Ambassador of Austria to the United States, visited Ungerboeck Systems International on March 23rd. During his visit, Dr. Prosl presented “The U.S. and the Rest of the World” in which he discussed current issues affecting the United States from a European viewpoint, including the financial crisis, terrorism and healthcare.

In his presentation, Dr. Prosl said it is of the utmost importance that Europe and the United States work together because we have similar concepts of human rights and democracy. He said, “We have values that we are convinced of and I think when you are convinced of something, you should tell others.”

Dr. Prosl discussed the continued growth of the European Union, and he stressed the importance of the European Parliament working with the U.S. Congress, especially where promoting democracy and human rights are concerned. He said, “If we believe in democracy, then we should work for it. If we believe in human rights, then we should make sure that human rights are universally accepted.”

He explained that the United States and Europe are working closely together to track down terrorists. Dr. Prosl also urged Americans to visit Europe more often to gain knowledge of each other and trade ideas.

While in the Missouri area, Dr. Prosl also met with local universities, businesses and the governor and lieutenant governor in Jefferson City.

Dr. Prosl has served in government posts around the world and was most recently Ambassador of Austria to Germany for 6 years. Ambassador Prosl earned a doctorate law degree in 1969 from the University of Vienna.
